Blue Screen of Death

2 Comments Written by Daniel's Mom on August 31, 2008 in Tech Mom.

My husband’s pc was broken few weeks ago and he haven’t got the time to fix it yet. He was so careful with his laptop that he decided to make my pc his crash machine. I’m not sure what he was doing but fretted when I experienced slow browsing, and was impossible for me to upload images, or even access my admin page for Wordpress. Then eventually the Blue screen.

The Blue Screen of Death (or BSOD), or Windows Stop error, is an itch on the nose. Everytime Windows define a faulty software, hardware, or driver it will not allow your computer to continue to work properly. This always happen with so many different reasons. From a defective hardware, such as a malfunctioning power supply or a bad RAM.

I bugged a friend for tech support because my husband was so busy on a meeting, and he suggested to just take my pc subsytem to a technician. He can’t walk me through hands-on technical troubleshooting on the phone because it might be risky. But I took the risk to open my subsystem and cleaned off dust on my hardwares. The fans are working alright. So my system didn’t overheat. I unplug and replug everything, making sure that devices were strongly corked in to the sockets and ports. And when i powered it on, it still gives the bleeping sound that means its trying to read my device. It just wouldn’t boot to Windows. I assumed it was a faulty hardware since I already painstakingly deleted suspected programs through Safe Mode earlier. But after a few tries it wouldn’t let me proceed even on Safe Mode.

When my husband came home, he took the other RAM, surmising it’s faulty. Then we were able to reinstall WindowsXP. And all was well. My husband’s pc is another issue. I’ll know when he will have the time to check it, he’s always busy. If I did not nagged him to help me with my pc he wouldn’t have moved to help me.

With WindowsXP most of it’s issues can be solved easily by a simple reboot. But this is not always the case, such as if you need to repair a bad hardware. Some of the original Windows components can repair the wrong steps and misses we made. You just need the WindowsXp installer on hand and boot in Safe Mode. But for hardware issues you’ll be needing your screw driver and a good eye  to check your devices.

What’s normal for your toddler?

daniel at two

A baby is a blessing. An angel that touches our lives and make it more meaningful. But a child shrieking and throwing away things could be irritating at times, especially if you are busy. Tantrums are ways to express their feelings. Toddlers may find it difficult to explain what they want and how they feel. Always check if the baby’s hurt or scared, then try to pacify. But that doesn’t mean giving in to his every whims.

I don’t have big time issues on feeding my two-year-old. Picky eating should be understood but not to be taken for granted. Toddlers like to eat the same things over and over again. Try to win them over good food and proper nutrition.

My son still poops on his nappies. But every time i sat him down on his potty he cooperates. I think, it’s should be a routine he has to get used to. Toilet training our toddlers takes time and requires a lot of patience.

Some toddlers have bath phobia. My son don’t, infact he loves to take a bath. Most babies love the water. Babies and toddlers have sensitive skin that we should take care of. And giving them a bath everyday makes their skin healthy and fresh. Use shampoos, baths, or baby soaps that protects tears.

Toddler needs atleast 13-14hours of sleep every night. Naps on daytime make up for the hours of loss sleep at night.

Mindanao Peace Talks

One Comment Written by Daniel's Mom on August 19, 2008 in It's a small world, daniel's mom says.

Philippines - What have become of the Peace Talks that everybody’s seeking and struggling to achieve? World Peace is just a cliche for those who joined beauty pageants. An elusive dream or a campaign ad for those who were aiming positions for government offices.

Yesterdays’ incidents in a number of places in Mindanao was a faux pas. Many innocent people lives’ were taken, properties were burned down, and civilians were forced to evacuate their domains, fleeting for Ozamis City on pump-boats at 1 am. A shocking story. A very sad news.

I was born and raised in Davao City. But I was in Lanao del Norte some years ago for a vacation. My father’s relatives harmoniously lives with their Muslim neighbors. Christian and Muslims are treated equal, that is to my view point. In college, my father went to MSU (Marawi State University). He says he used to play ball games with his Muslims classmates. He had many Muslim friends and none of them treated him differently. Few years ago I helped campaign for an uncle running for Mayor. This uncle is a Muslim, and we are not blood-related, but think of us a family.

How could this evil be stopped? Mindanao is not for Muslims alone. Some mere bandits and murderers stand behind the name of our Muslim brothers. They used the old political rivalry issues of Christian and Muslims to sustain their mundane needs. I am shaking in disgust watching the news on TV yesterday. A boy was crying because his father was killed. People were running and hiding for fear. These bandits ransacking the town under the banner of MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front). They robbed, vandalized the town, and took hostages to shield them from the Military troups. And the newspaper this morning says, that MILF has no control over their commanders. No control? That makes the ongoing peace talks senseless. Why do we have to listen to MILF, or MNLF demands when they don’t have ascendancy to their people? The government should make everybody understand that Mindanao is for Mindanaoans, for Filipinos, for Christians and Muslims alike.
