Baby Names

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s blessed with twins. Last Saturday, July 12, Angelina gave birth to the new additions of their growing family, Vivienne Marchiline and Knox Leon.

According to baby name expert Pamela Redmond Satran, “Angelina and Brad have proven once again that they are the leaders in original baby-naming, even by Hollywood standards,..”

Vivienne is the French version of the ancient Latin name that means ‘alive’. And Marcheline was the name of Jolie’s mother. The son’s name Leon is Brad’s grandfather’s middle name. It also matches older brothers, Maddox and Pax. While Leon is Jolie’s great-great grandfather’s name.

2002, Angelina named first adopted son Maddox Chivan when he was a little baby. Maddox means good and generous. Then, after 3 years, she and Brad adopted and named second baby Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt. Zahara means “flower” in Swahili and “to shine” in Hebrew. And Angelina’s first biological child with Brad, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. Shiloh means “peaceful one,” in Hebrew. Nouvel is a reference to Jean Nouvel, a famous French architect. Pax Thein Jolie was adopted in 2007. Pax meaning peace in Latin, Thien meaning heaven, helpful or good in Vietnamese.

I like how their boys’ names ended with ‘x’. We named our son Daniel so to sound like my husband’s name Nel and my name Roselle. Also I’ve been planning to name next son Gabriel, or Janelle if it’s a girl. Parents give baby names that rhymes or sound like their own names. Some baby names are combinations of both parents’ names. Or some, have their parent’s name, like my brother is my father’s ‘Junior’ or ‘the second’. My best friend named their son Kaden Anthony, coming from his dad’s, which is Karl Anthony.

But Brad and Angelina have the knack of choosing names that are different and unusual. And they do affect the trends in the world of baby names.

mom’s paranoia

sleepless nights causes me an agonizing headache.. incessantly yawning.. my eyes teary.. oh! i’m so ready to drop dead in bed..

my son’s not a cry baby.. in fact, he’s the exact opposite.. he would just play inside his crib.. and just whimpers softly when he’ll ask for milk., or need to change his nappy..

i’m so blessed to have a good baby boy..

so why the sleepless nights?

i wanted to be with him when he’s awake.. or be around when he needs something.. whenever he asked for food, or already uncomfortable from his wet diaper..

i even have all sorts of paranoia.. what if he chokes or bumps his head when i am not around? what if insects crawl, or mosquitoes bite?

he still can’t talk., all he does is babble.. He calls out mama when he’s hungry, or sleepy.. and yells papa when he’s in the mood to play peek-a-boo, or wanted a game of wrestle, with his father., . but how would i know for sure what he means when he says bababa, gaga., ah-goo..? that would, of course, mean something.. i could only guess from the tone of his voice, and facial expression if he’s happy, hurt, or scared..

i even have this weird thought of my nightmares if my child’s kidnapped.. if wicked witches are true., and out to steal babies.. or in present reality, where bad people abducts children and sell them to white slavery, or merely for a murder.. or if TomCruise’s WarOfTheWorlds movie comes real..

maybe i’ve just seen too many movies, or news on TV., and even episodes of kidnapping crimes in Discovery Channel, or CSI..

Play Ball

dribble, pass,. bounce bounce bounce..

there goes the ball..

my almost 11-month old son loves to play ball.. since he started standing on his own he would screech at us for a game of toss and pass whenever he sees a ball..

i had this conversation with my mother on the phone telling her that i am tired of picking balls on the floor, or under the bed. she said, should encourage the child on things he wanted and loves to do..

i think its too early to think of my son’s future career.. but it left me into thinking.. He loves ball., will he be a basketball player? or a football player? he also likes to babble and prattle, and likes books, too., will he be a lawyer? and how about, wanting to reach for the computer keyboard., will he be an engineer like his father., or maybe, like me..? what will he be? a doctor., a priest maybe., or a soldier?

yes, right! it’s yet so early.. guess, we should just enjoy him for now. our little baby..

whatever he’ll become, we’ll always love him.. it’ll be his choice, it’ll be his life.. his happiness.. and that’s most important.. for him to be happy and grow-up a good person..

time out.. he’s up.. will play ball now..

Healthy babies are happy babies.

But, there are times, no matter how we took good care of the baby they get sick. What could be more painful than having to see your child suffering and ill? Common diseases seem not common at all. A little child is so helpless even to a simple cold, what more to chickenpox, mumps or typhoid fever. It could be common because it happens to every baby every now and then. But the thought of your baby suffering could be frustrating. It is difficult to accept why your baby got it. Blame it on the weather , pollution, and other things.

Here’s a list of common diseases we would not want our babies to get:

  • Chickenpox
    • When it appears: 12-16 days after exposure
    • Symptoms to watch for: Fever; pink, blister-topped lesions appear for several days on body, face and scalp. Blisters break and form scales or crusta. Condult your doctor at once.

    • Symptoms to watch for: Fever; running nose; red watery eyes; harsh, dry cough; Koplick’s spots (small, white, milk-like spots) in the mouth; red rash around the hairline, ears on the 4th or 5th day, then spreading gradually over the body. Consult your doctor at once.
    • How long it last: 5 days
  • Meningitis
    • When it appears: 1st week, variable after
    • Symptoms to watch for: Sudden fever, headache , vomiting. Occasional red exposure dish skin spots in the eyelids, body and extremities. Consult your doctor immediately.
  • Mumps
    • When it appears: Third week, increased 1 week after
    • Symptoms to watch for: Pain in the cheeks when chewing, swelling; moderate exposure body weakness. Consult your doctor at once.
  • Typhoid Fever
    • When it appears: 1-2 weeks after exposure
    • Symptoms to watch for: Fever, diarrhea, vomiting, stupor; delirium and low pulse rate. Consult your doctor at once.
    • How long it last: 2-4weeks
  • Whooping Cough
