Farm Town - how to make waterfalls

2 Comments Written by Daniel's Mom on November 22, 2009 in Tech Mom.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a waterfall in your FarmTown farm? I could buy ponds and rivers, or purchase Farmtown Cash to get lakes. But no waterfall for sale. Yet, we can always keep the imagination working and the hands busy. Land elevations and waterfalls in FarmTown ’s just a matter of layering pieces of dirt paths, rivers, trees, hedges, and etc.

By means of arranging the river pieces on top of each other we can make a waterfall.

First, take a river corner.

FarmTown.10

Place four, or more, dirt paths on top of the river piece. The idea is, river/river corners can only be placed on top of the grass or a dirt path.

FarmTown.11

Then, set another river corner on top of the dirt paths.

FarmTown.12

Remove dirt paths when the river piece is already in position.

FarmTown.13

Repeat the same technique for another cascade, until you reach the desired height of your waterfall.

FarmTown.14

Then, you can add lilies on your waterfalls, ponds, rivers, or on your river banks.

Farm Town Trick

One Comment Written by Daniel's Mom on October 21, 2009 in Tech Mom.

It’s a craze that everyone wants to go farming now! Facebook’s Farm Town became addicting to people of all ages. Some stay up so late to plant and plow. And wake up so early to be able to harvest crops and trees on time. You wouldn’t want to miss or else crops would go into waste.

But it’s not just plowing, planting, and harvesting, or making your farm huge. Farm Town unleashes the artist in us by making our farms beautiful. One of my favorites are lilies on the water. But you can’t just plant the lilies or any flower on top of a pond or the river. My friend Dinah, a FarmTown-genius, taught me this trick. These are the steps to do the trick;

FarmTown.1

 FarmTown.2

First, you put the flower. Choose your flower and plant it on the grass. (Here, I had Lilies right from the store and Lilies that are fully grown. The trick works for both.)

FarmTown.3

Then go to Preferences, and uncheck the “show flowers” option.

Refresh your browser.

And when you enter your farm again you won’t be able to see the flowers. Now place the river/pond on top of where the flowers are supposedly planted.

FarmTown.4

Go to Preferences again, Check the “show flowers” option.

Refresh! and there.. Lilies on the water, where it should be.

fraudulent e-mail and phishing schemes

A friend asked me to check out an email that was sent to him. It says somebody sent him a package or was that a bank draft of a large sum of money. And the company was asking for my friend’s personal information. I told him, it’s a fraud!

Criminals took advantage of the world wide web as we are now in the Internet Age. Online fraud is very popular nowadays. Phony email messages and scheming web sites are powerful tools for these crooks. They will trick you to give out your financial or personal information and use them in many possible ways for their financial gain.

You might be entice to reply to an email message that says somebody has left you a fortune. And you might think that you won’t lose anything since the email’s not asking you to send them money. But without realizing the severity of your answer email, you have already given them your name, address, phone number, birthdate, and bank account numbers. These information they can and will use to apply for and get credit in your name, max out your credit cards, or empty a bank account.

Phishing sites are fake websites. They often use real organization’s name and logo. They will trick you to submit your personal information by making you answer application or sign-up forms. And they will surely get hold of your email address and passwords, which could be very useful to them.

Before getting excited, you have to ask yourself some questions. Who would send you a large amount of money? Why would a stranger entrust millions of dollars to you? If you can’t give a logical answer to these questions then you’re facing a fraudulent scheme waiting for you to fall into their plot.

And these are ways to avoid phisher sites and online fraud:

Never reply to e-mail messages that request your personal information
Don’t click links in suspicious e-mail
Use strong passwords and change them often
Don’t send personal information in regular e-mail messages
Do business only with companies you know and trust
Make sure the Web site uses encryption
Help protect your PC
Monitor your transactions
Use credit cards for transactions on the Internet instead of a debit card

Matt Mullenweg

WordCamp Philippines 2008 was a success. It was great meeting other developers, and learning a thing or two from them. The camp was not solely for programmers and developers but there were the bloggers as well, ofcourse. I’ve learn some bits and pieces from some programmers I happened to sat beside with in the sessions, who shared their expertise and how-do-they-do-it stuff and all. The talks were enriching, especially Hans Koch’s on SEO.

And to top it all, it was amazing to meet Matt Mullenweg in person, and hear him talk. To those who didn’t know, Matt’s the founding developer of Wordpress.

The whole activity was well planned and organized by the Mindanao Bloggers. And there were cool prizes and give-aways for everyone, too. Mig tossed me a cool foldable USB keyboard from one of the many sponsors, Smart Bro.
