My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad

When it rains, songs would play in my mind. Well, I thought about a lot of things when I got nothing much to do. But childhood memories are fun to linger and saunter on sometimes.  Rain and childhood memories remind me of the song My Favorite Things from the movie The Sound of Music. Julie Andrews’ 1965 movie is a classic favorite.

The story of a very young aspiring nun, Maria, who left the convent and became the governess in a  Navy captain’s home. Her task was to look after the Captain’s seven frisky children with attitudes, who made all their past governess’ lives miserable by playing prank jokes on them. But Maria’s patience got the love of the children who missed their dead mother so much. Maria’s stay with the Von Trapp family made a big change. From a very sad and strict grounds to a happy and lively house. Eventually, the Captain and Frauline Maria fell inlove, and they got married.

Songs and dancing made the movie so lovely. Lessons about family, love, trust and loyalty,  depicted in the story. And of courage and patriotism, too.
